Two drummers lead the Grenadiers off to Lady's Wood on the
Monday evening |
where
they hunt for the Earl of Rone, |
eventually
capturing him |
and
setting him backsy-fore on a garlanded donkey to be processed through the
village. |
He
is frequently shot from off the donkey |
only
to be revived by the Hobby Horse and the Fool. |
The
penultimate 'death' takes place above the beach. |
After
the final 'death' on the beach, the Grenadiers rush with the Earl into the
sea |
and
fling him as far out as they can, |
returning,
sodden, to the beach and the crowd who watch the Earl float away. |
