- Welcome to the web-site of The
Hunting of the Earl of Rone. This annual custom, unique to our
village of Combe Martin, on the coast of North Devon, takes place each
year over the four days of the Spring Bank Holiday weekend at the end of
May, and
involves some 600 villagers.
-
- We were amazed to find a lot of
information already on the web about our custom - much of it totally
incorrect - so we decided to put up our own site! A lot of it is still
'under construction', but please browse the site,
using the menu on the left, to learn more about this unusual and complex
traditional custom, its history and revival, and about our village.
We hope you enjoy it.
From the menu item 'Capturing the
Earl' you will be able to see some of the results of the special 2005
project by kids from the village.
