-
- In 2009, The Hunting of the Earl of Rone will,
as tradition demands, take place over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend,
commencing on Friday 22rd May. The Party will assemble at Holdstone Way - opposite what used to be the London Inn - at 7.15 p.m., and
make its way down the village as far as the Pack O' Cards before returning to
The Stable at The Castle Inn.
-
- The Children's Day is Saturday, and the Junior
Party will be starting from the Primary School at 11.00 a.m., making its way
to the beach before processing up the village.
-
- The Senior Party will again be out on the
Sunday afternoon. Starting from Sandaway Holiday Park, out on the
Ilfracombe Road, at 1.30 p.m., the procession arrives at the beach
at about 2.00 p.m. From there it makes its way up the village,
often on back ways, eventually returning to the Stable .
-
- The eventual capture and final procession,
assuming the Earl is in fact found after all this effort, is on Monday 25th
May. The hunting party will be heading off, up Wood Lane to Lady's Wood, at
approximately 6.00 p.m. and will be met by the Hobby Horse and Fool when they (hopefully) return
to the main road. With a refreshment break at the Pack O' Cards, the Party
will reach the beach at sunset, and once again commit the Earl to the seas
until another year.
